Purchase orders for Shopify: your options after Stocky

Updated August 2026

For years, Stocky was the default answer to "how do I do purchase orders on Shopify?" With Stocky shutting down on August 31, 2026, merchants are re-deciding how POs should work. Here's the landscape.

Option 1: Shopify's native purchase orders

Shopify admin now includes basic draft purchase orders (Products → Purchase orders on supported plans). They're free and fine for occasional restocks, but the workflow is manual end-to-end: nothing tells you when to create a PO, nothing pre-fills it with what's actually low, and supplier handling is minimal. If you only reorder a handful of SKUs a few times a year, this may genuinely be enough.

Option 2: Spreadsheets + email

Many stores run POs as a spreadsheet template exported to PDF. Zero software cost, total flexibility — and no connection to your inventory. Quantities are typed by hand (typo risk), received stock is adjusted in Shopify manually (drift risk), and there's no record linking the PO to what actually arrived.

Option 3: An inventory app with a PO workflow

Apps close the loop: threshold crossed → alert → pre-filled PO → supplier email → receive into Shopify. When comparing apps, check:

How it works in Supply Radar

  1. A SKU crosses its reorder point and you get an instant alert.
  2. One click opens a draft PO pre-filled with the low-stock items for that supplier, with suggested quantities.
  3. Review, adjust, generate the PDF, and email it to the supplier from the app.
  4. When the delivery arrives, click "Mark received" — inventory is updated in Shopify. That's the only time Supply Radar ever writes to your store; everything else is read-only by design.

The full purchasing workflow is $19/mo flat with a 14-day free trial — no per-order fees, no seat pricing. Alerts alone are $9/mo, and there's a free plan with 5 alert rules.
